[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Sarah T. – an alumna of Blueprint Recovery Center in Concord, New Hampshire — has a lot going on. She’ll be six months sober this month, and is moving from Massachusetts to Bedford Goffstown in order to pursue a new career and stay close to her recovery support network.
But it wasn’t long ago that Sarah experienced life-changing tragedies back-to-back. In November of last year, her husband, Mike, passed away while detoxing from alcohol. Shortly after that, a dear friend died from a heroin overdose.
Sarah and her husband began drinking too much after the birth of their twins (their second and third children). Sarah’s career was quite stressful, and she didn’t know if she wanted another child. When the twins were born, she and Mike began arguing and drinking more. Both she and her husband sought treatment.
“He went away four times,” Sarah said. “The two of us were not a good match.”
In May of 2019, Sarah checked into a Holistic Substance Use Treatment Center in Tennessee, where she maintained sobriety until the death of her husband and close friend. After drinking again, Sarah contacted an old hometown friend– Tim Heanault, the Director of Operations at Blueprint Recovery Center–and started treatment there.
“I knew I hadn’t dealt with the grief,” Sarah said. “I understood the whole higher power and surrendering concept, but I didn’t have much knowledge around the whole 12-step program. Blueprint was a game changer in instilling those concepts, and the knowledge that addiction does not have a one and done cure.”
Sarah says that the staff at Blueprint go above and beyond their roles as case managers, behavioral health technicians and clinicians.
“Blueprint really tries to involve you in extracurricular activities at no extra cost to you,” she said. “Hikes, movies, yoga. They go the extra mile. When clients are looking for a treatment center, those things often go unnoticed.”
As part of her recovery, Sarah relies heavily on spirituality. Through meditation, and attending 12-step and Dharma Recovery meetings, Sarah has found the balance that she was always looking for. Additionally, Sarah stays in touch with both counselors and other alumni from Blueprint in order to maintain her recovery.
“They all check up on you,” she said. “Blueprint truly is a place that crosses my mind daily. We keep each other accountable even if we aren’t together.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
