Podcasts about addiction and recovery are useful for people in any stage of sobriety or anyone who wants to learn about addiction. They teach about recovery, and give insight into other people’s experiences. We’ve previously shared some podcasts about these topics; below are some additional suggestions:
This podcast is not solely about addiction or mental health, but the two hosts are in recovery and frequently come back to these topics. One of the hosts, Lauren McQ, runs a recovery meme page on Instagram, @brutalrecovery. Examples of episode topics are borderline personality disorder (which both hosts have), the history of mental health treatment, attachment styles, and the troubled teen industry. The show is funny, honest, and nuanced.
Therapy for Black Girls:
Therapy for Black Girls is hosted by Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, Ph.D., a licensed psychologist in Atlanta. Most episodes, Bradford is joined by an expert on a subject related to mental health and quality of life.
This podcast is co-hosted by Lisa Smith, “a rock-and-roll loving Gen X lawyer in 12-step recovery from addiction to alcohol and drugs,” and Tawny Lara, “an equally rock-obsessed Millenial writer who found addiction recovery through blogging.”
The two discuss all things recovery, like relapse anxiety, sober firsts, hobbies, and recovery and the healthcare system. Even though the two hosts have a different approach to recovery, they share a willingness to listen and learn.
