Cody Cook is a Business Development Representative for Midwest Detox Center in Maumee, Ohio. Originally from Pataskala, Ohio, Cook now resides in Columbus, where he has been an active member of the city’s recovery community for more than six years.
“I began my journey a little over six years ago,” he said. “I received treatment in Columbus, and I began working in the treatment field as a direct result of being part of that community.”
In early sobriety, Cook began working in the treatment industry. Recently, he joined the team at the Midwest Recovery Center family of facilities. He describes his work as “fortifying relationships in Ohio,” specifically in Columbus and other Northeast parts of the state.
“My day consists of searching out like-minded people who can help patients in whatever way they can,” he said. “I seek those places out and forge relationships with those who have patient placement as a need.”
For Cook, who has been through treatment himself, the care provided and culture created by Midwest Recovery Centers makes the center a stand out among other addiction treatment facilities.
“In comparison to the places I’ve worked in the past, it’s one of the only places where former clients are not only working at, but thriving in their roles at the facility,” he said. “It’s not only giving them their sobriety, but a meaningful career path.”
Cook also believes that the Midwest Recovery clinicians are among the most educated staff he’s seen during his career in business development. In addition to the master-level clinicians, Cook speaks highly of the center’s case management services, which ensure a complete and thorough continuity of care; this is a rarity in the treatment world at large.
Cook has earned a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology from Ohio State, and is an avid rock climber and hiker. He says these gifts are a direct result of seeking treatment and beginning a life in recovery–a message he likes to make clear to potential clients.
“I’m a direct result of this type of healthcare,” he said. “The fact that I’m here – alive and well is a testament that treatment works. It is a message worth sharing.”
He says being able to provide for someone else what was so freely given to him in early recovery is the most rewarding part of the job.
“When I get in touch with someone who has been desperately searching for a resource, and that search finally ends, that’s what it’s all about,” he said. “I lived off of borrowed hope from people in treatment and in recovery. Since we have such a long program, you can see real change in a person’s spirit in that amount of time.”
